On behalf of The Japan Society Canada, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and subsequent tsunami which struck the northeast coast of Japan on March 11, 2011.

We join with all TJS members, as well as Japanese communities in Canada and across the world to remember those who lost their lives, as well as pay homage those who provided assistance and support during and after this devastating event. At the same time, we celebrate the strength and resilience of the Japanese people in forging a path towards a robust recovery from this tragic disaster.

Finally, we echo the statement released by Prime Minister Trudeau:

“In the wake of this disaster, Canadians showed solidarity with the Japanese people in their time of need and provided immediate support, contributing over $40 million to relief efforts. Many Canadians living in Japan volunteered tirelessly to deliver supplies and messages of hope to their adopted home.”
